Remind me occasionally, please
that I’m more fragile than I like to admit

After helping move 3 pallets [that’s 15,000 CDs in jewel cases] yesterday, I woke up in the middle of the night screaming in pain.

Standing up and sitting down hurts. Rolling over hurts. Being awake hurts.

I also have a nasty ass bruise on my inner arm.

How come shit never hurts WHILE you’re doing it?

yeah. you get that if you haven’t worked out in yers and you suddenly feel an urge to do your body some good. it screams out in anguish the morning after. dumb body. not that i would knowl i work out everyday of my laife and am strong like the INCREDIBLE HULK!! rarrrrw! just try to do some stretches and it’ll get better =)

yeh cos ur straining ur muscles and its all pumped and heated up when ur working.; but when u lay down to rest, ur body relaxes and them muscles start hurtin.

A lot of people are offering advice and they don’t know what they’re talking about. Protein won’t take away your pain. Lactic acid isn’t what’s making you hurt now.
The reason why you don’t experience as much pain during the activity is because your body release catecholamines (e.g. adrenaline/epinephrine, norepinephrine) and endorphins (natural painkillers, similar in structure to heroin) that reduce the sensation of pain, so that you’re able to get through whatever it is you’re doing (e.g. running away from a bear on a bum ankle, fighting on after you’ve been cut). These stress hormones and peptides wear off though, and that’s why you feel the pain a lot more the next morning.
Lactic acid is produced when you’ve done a lot of anaerobic exercise (e.g. lifting heavy things) and gives you that burning feeling in your muscles; it also can make you feel nauseated. It goes away relatively quick though and isn’t likely to be causing you your current pain.

I guess it doesn’t hurt while your actually doing it becuase your mind isn’t focused on the pain.. Your attention is focused on something else.. Also, I guess for pain to be absorbed, it takes time?? Well, that’s my theory.. I hope you get better soon…

If it hurt while we were doing it we wouldn’t have the pleasure of enjoying the pain afterwards.
Pectin (as in apple pectin) is good for soreness and is a natural remedy.  Eat apples or drink apple juice or go to the health food store and buy it.  It isn’t as effective as Alleve (as in naproxen sodium) at about 500mg every 6 to 8 hours (3 max in 24, then quit) in my opinion though.
Can’t recommend much for the bruise.  Try alternating hot and cold packs – start hot, finish cold.  That or friendly massage might be even better.
Actually friendly massage might be a good substitute for all the above.
Sorry your hurting dear.  Take care of your fragile self.  You weren’t designed to be a bulldozer.
