Duck Fetuses:
Yeah, I like to eat ‘em.

Dear Friend

So I was watching Fear Factor the other day and they were eating
semi-formed duck fetuses straight from the egg. I couldnt help
but think to myself “SHIT, with some salt and pepper and mint, I’d eat
that shit for FREE”.

In case you didn’t know what it looked like.
Image stolen from
xotcho.free.fr

“Duck fetuses”
as I like to call them, “hot vit lon” in Viet, or “balot” as filipino
people say, is actually a type of delicassy. I personally love
eating them. Growing up, my parents would buy it on special
occasions and sometimes just for the hell of it, and we’d each eat
about 10 eggs.

Other things that I like to eat that you might find gross are:

  • Pig marrow blocks [found in Dim sum and Pho]
  • Duck blood jello [eaten with rice cakes and beer]
  • Anchovy paste with the full anchovy in it [MY FAVORITE]

Ironically
enough, as much as I love the kind of stuff above, I refuse to eat
cooked carrots. I’d die on Fear Factor if they made me eat a
whole tub of cooked carrots.

Love,
Kim

Sashimi (raw fish) is tasty, but people avoid it like the PLAGUE sometimesthere are other chinese food that may disgust people like chicken feet, but I think that they’re ok
I don’t like steamed carrots either…but besides that, it’s all good-Ko

GQ did a feature on weirdest shit to eat on earth.Personally, I don’t find this anywhere close as repugnant as the putrified shark and burnt sheep’s head split in two (eyes in) in Iceland. Worst shit I’ve ever seen in my life. Thank God I was also able to order smoked trout.Surprisingly good “authentic cuisine?” Estonia. From great bread to great fish, YUM. I just make sure to stay away from blood sausage and the like.

Kim the Bisexual Duck Fetus Eating MMORPG Goddess  Let’s be honest–that image wasn’t stolen from a website.  You had duck fetus for lunch.  Fess up.  =)
Good post though.  I understand the feeling.  When they’re eating intestines on Fear Factor, I’m like…I’d eat that shit, no problem.  Meanwhile you have white people and black people gagging.  Then a season later they escalate it and make people drink insect/maggot shakes.  I stopped watching the stupid show.  It’s too bizarre for me now.

I have a theory about Asian people eating weird things.  When you’re a kid, and your parents give you pork blood, you say “Eeww, I’m not eating that.” and it’s like “Fine starve then” so you eat it out of necessity, and since you’re eating you might as well learn to enjoy it.

now in the philippines there’s this thing called “chocolate meat” it’s basically pig cooked in it’s own blood…and let’s not talk about taboo food…aka the d-word hahaha no not dick…than again fear factor hahahah no it’s man bestfriend and yes i dare go for the gross out forbidden meat….^^ yea i win the gross out comment on food bwahahaha

I knew about ‘balut’, but never ate it until my Vietnamese friends in Saigon ordered it for me. I was queasy at first, but did finish it the first time offered, and also ate it on a second and third occasion. I actually liked snake soup and other snake dishes in Vietnam. But the worst thing I ever ate was when I tried dogmeat once. Could deal with a little, just a little before getting repulsed by the taste, toughness, bad feeling in my stomach, and yes the idea of eating Fido. Some of the best food I ever ate was “ga nuong” barbecued on a simple machine on the streets. And the only PHO I like is PHO Tai, which I absolutely adore.

lindenrose said,

Fetuses make me kind of sad.
