I don’t want to make it seem as if I’m making light of Aaliyah’s death — because it really is a tragedy. I’m just tired of all these people who are suddenly realizing that they should live their lives to the fullest just because somebody famous died.

People die every day and yet the average person always forgets their resolve to live life to the fullest. Why? Because they are scared of the consequences.

The funny thing is, some of the things that make you feel the most alive don’t have any consequences at all. You just have to find them.

Anyhow, back to the subject at hand. I’m tired of reading about all of these people who are suddenly appreciative of their lives now that someone has died. Someone young. Beautiful. Someone famous. I mean, life was just as precious before she died and now people are finally realizing its worth? It makes no sense to me.

Oh well, at least those people are the ones who are taking Aaliyah’s death in a more positive light.

i’m sorry… this is rude of me to say this about someone who is dead..

but i think way too many people are using this as an excuse to have some sort of epiphany… maybe it’s just me because it’s not really my style of music and so i live outside the subculture… but….

i can’t help but mention how america lives by it’s pop icons. nikolai basilov was like.. awesome… and im one of like.. 6 people who knows he’s dead.. or what he even did.

so.. she died. a lot of people die everyday. the numbers are astonishing. a lot of people die everyday that have made huge contributions to society and science and mathematics and technology… but someone who wrote songs and was on mtv was so much more important than they are by societal standards because fame is everything. americans care about their famous elite. they don’t notice their intelligent elite, unless they do something crazy like have mad money or hang out with the other famous people.

You are as important in america as you are visible. And that sucks. because so many people are only open to what they see on tv.

so go home an watch the discovery channel and wait til the play something on basilov, dammit!

What I think is even more sad is that the articles I read about it had more to say about her screwing up the Matrix sequels’ schedules than anything about her, or her family. Nice job, guys, in looking exactly like the media vultures you are.

I, for one, am sad that she’s dead. She is a kickass artist. She’s so young, but she seems so happy and so at peace with what she’s doing. Unlike a lot of other young stars, she was sure about what she wanted and was genuinely happy with her life. She can sing, she can dance, she’s gorgeous, she has amazing stage presence, and she seems so likable. It’s true the death of an icon affects us sometimes too greatly, but it’s because we think they’re immortal. When a sick relatives dies, you expect it, but when Princess Diana dies in a car wreck or Tupac gets shot, you can’t believe that happened.

I hate when people act sad when they don’t even know who they are. They just act all affected because they’re in the proximity of the death. Like "Oh, I know her." But they didn’t even like them while they were alive. Speaking ill of the dead. If you speaking ill of them while they were alive, why stop? Why this reverence for them once they’ve passed on?

But, I like Aaliyah. I’m sad. When I found out, it didn’t seem real to me. It’s always so much more tragic when they die young because of all that lost potential. However, I have never and probably never will cry over the death of a celebrity.

And call me an ignorant bastard, cause I have no idea who Nikolai Basilov is, but I wouldn’t be shedding tears for him anyway.

uhm… yeah. i didn’t expect you to know who basilov is… i think that was sort of the point. >_

death doesn’t make me sad anyway. a lot of people deserve to die. a lot of people don’t and die anyway. i don’t really care in the process. call me cold-hearted or whatever… but unless i see them as ever having contributed something useful, then it’s not like i’m going to cringe and feel bad or anything.

it had nothing to do with how i feel about her personally.. just my distaste for the general ignorance of american society and all this crazed idol crap. and i’m not saying "ooh you don’t know who basilov is! you’re an mtv-watching dumbass!"… basilov was just an example. what about seaborg? … he was cool too.

everyone who can know does know that people are ignorant en masse.

i hate to be stealing from scrooge here.. but.. for all the useless drains on society… let them die and decrease the surplus population.
