Are there 1 dimensional creatures?
Are there 4 dimensional creatures?

Supposedly we are 3 dimensional figures moving through the 4th dimension [time]. Considering the fact that we can’t move back and forth in time, I think it’s safe to say that for now we’re stuck in this 3rd dimension moving carelessly through the 4th dimension idea.

2 dimensional creatures

Is it possible that there are creatures of the 2nd dimension, creatures with only a sense of linear that move along forward only endlessly through what we consider our 3rd dimension? Is it possible that we never see them and never perceive them because they’re not traveling with us at all in the 4th dimension of time, but moving instantaneously and endlessly at the same time in a direction we can draw easily with a line?

4 dimensional creatures

If time is the fourth dimension, are there creatures made completely out of the fabric of time? Is it possible that we’re living in one of these creatures of the 4th dimension, moving forward always the way blood flows through a vein… Never able to go backwards?

Writers dream that we may one day be able to travel time… but can we ever conquer any dimensions besides the 3rd? —

Have we conquered the 3rd dimension?

Have we really conquered the idea of dimensions?

the fourth dimension is actually space-time…so you have to re-evaluate your entire entry. space-time is completely different than time.

It took the collective intelligence of a couple million men of science to understand our own dimension. I’m afraid it will be eons before we can begin to grasp the natures of alien dimensions.Your theory about 4 dimensional beings is common amongst people who spend a lot of time wondering about random things.

prodigyvioana said,

in mathematical theory, there are calculations showing multiple dimensions beyond only 4. i believe the last proof demonstrated there being 8 possible dimensions

came across this from someone else’s xanga–you have pretty interesting entries.  this was a pretty intriguing perspective on time but if you’re truly interested in the dimensional stuff…read stephen hawking’s “about time”- it’s a more easier read about einstein’s theories.

this post made me go o_O what if we really are stuck in some creature known as the fourth dimension? once we master it we’ll be moving through time for fun. i just know it. running up to MLK and giving him a wedgie and then running back to the present. if we ever master it though, will there even be a present?

The 4th dimension is all about your mind.  You can get there through music, writin, ary, whatever!

aydongbeeleef said,

vampuke: lolthis is the crap i used to think about while driving at night, solo.ken, ryu, chun li are all trapped in the 2-D realm. they exist, and we as 3-D creatues are able to bring creatures of the 2nd dimension into our own i.e. Mario and Donkey Kong. that is the first step in understanding how to further our own advancement.

amy_li said,

that’s a good question. and i honestly don’t know.

davidngo said,

January 20, 2006 @ 12:53 pm

thinking about these things inevitably brings you to the conclusion that your mind can’t handle it.  cause how does one thing outside if his normal 3 dimensions?  simple questions like, “how does 2-d creature eat?  if it has a digestive tract, it would inevitably be cut into two halves.”  Does a 2-D creature move through time?  If it has no depth, how can it exist?  What are the rules for existence in 2-D?
The 4 dimension is a bit cooler to talk about.  Imagine a 2-D creature trying to understand a 3-D object.  the only way a 2-D creature could SEE a 3-D object is if we passed it through its plane….like passing an apple through a piece of paper.  To the 2-D world, they’d see a point turn into a circle and then back to a point again.  (like the slices of the apple from bottom to top)
So if we apply that same example to our 4-D question.  What would we see if we passed a 4-Dimensional object through our 3-D world?  Probably a 3-D object that would morph and change in strange ways….like some ball that was expanding and contracting into different solids.  weird huh?   but that’s the closest we can come to really comprehending it.  cause i have no idea what a 4th dimension would be or look like.

dehzep said,

a one dimensional creature is something that has a one track mind.  like a guy.  they are either only thinking about electronics or cars or sports or sex.  only one thing at a time tho.  that is a one dimensional creature.

In the physical world, there are 3 spatial dimensions measured by coordinates X,Y and Z.. Then there is T for Time – thats 4 dimensions. Then I believe there is another dimension that certain gifted people can travel to where there are no physical dimensions, only colors and light… this transcends both space and time which explains why we sometimes see the future, or a psychic may use this “channel” to occupy another’s mindspace, the ability to see auras or our return to “the light” and also solves for God.

onestyle said,

January 20, 2006 @ 5:47 pm

after reading some of these comments, i think the mistake people make when it comes to dimensions is because they limit alternate dimensions to that of a physical world. “like teaching a blind man to recognize color” which i think is entirely possible by the use of abstracts like associating the wave form of color with a rhythm, but thats a theory for another day.

You should read the book Flatland by Edwin Abbott, it goes along with your entry ;-)

steadystate said,

January 20, 2006 @ 6:34 pm

you should check out brian greene’s “the elegant universe.” apparently, according to the book – in string theory, there are something like eleven dimensions. they are smaller than the planck distance, (like a bajillionth of a meter), so there’s no way we can ever test for them unless we had a nuclear accelerator the size of a galaxy, and they are curled up into little tiny balls.in other words, bullshit. and there are people getting paid to think seriously about that stuff.

steadystate said,

January 20, 2006 @ 6:35 pm

yeah, what that other guy said, “flatland.” that one is about 2D worlds as well.

Ive always wondered, you know how in Pac-Man if you move too far to the right or too far to the left of the screen you end up coming out on the opposite side of the screen. Well, what if it’s like that in space, once you reach the end you come out the other side.

How does a 2 dimensional creature eat and take a shit? They can’t because the path from their mouth to ass would split their body in half as they only have 2 dimensions.  The only solution would be for them to eat and shit from the same hole.

Oooo this post reminds me of Animorphs (remember those books? haha). There was this creature of the fourth dimension that would rarely pop up in the series. But when it did pop up, huge changes would happen. Hmmm, things like that are too complicated to think about. I might end up with a couple of gray hairs, haha,-Dave

TheAntiDrak said,

You don’t know what you’re talking about.  The first three dimensions are height, breadth and depth.  The fourth dimension would be(presumably)motion.  However, that is false.  Because motion, or time would not be a condition of an object possessing the first three “dimensions”  but would instead be the perception of the motion of that object.  Therefore, there is no “fourth” dimension.  Time is merely a measurement of perception.  If you consider “time” as a continuum, it is only because you perceive such a thing as memory as linear.  However, that is entirely a construct of the imagination and isn’t replicated in the physical universe.  In fact, such a thing as time is a mental interpretation of a metaphysical construct that has never been perceived by the senses.
You’re asking alot of non-questions.  Are there one dimensional creatures?  You could just as well ask how loud is the color blue, and how thick is a symphony.  This sort of crap started with people on drugs sitting around and talking about stuff.  It only goes to show that a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

female_azn_thug said,

I think the 4 dimensional creatures are the evil little bastards that fuck us up when we’re running late.

But of course, we can’t see them. But considering the science that’s continuing to “improve,” (like the cloned dog. 0_o) we could probably see them sometime soon.
If they exist.
But I’m not too sure about the 2 dimensional ones..

4d. has been a concept theorized about by both mathematicians and physisists for many years, the official definition is :
“The concept of a fourth dimension is one that is often described in considering its physical implications, that is, we know that in three dimensions, we have dimensions of length (or depth), width, and height. The fourth dimension is said to be at right angles to these three. The cardinal directions in the three known dimensions are called up/down (altitude), north/south (longitude), and east/west (latitude). When speaking of the fourth dimension, an additional pair of terms is needed. Attested terms include ana/kata (sometimes called spassitude), vinn/vout (used by Rudy Rucker), and upsilon/delta.”
as far as the implications the fourth dimension might have for the relality of the world, I have no idea…
