My friend has cancer.

[as a favor, can you guys comment and/or give a lot of e-props to this entry, so that it can get as much publicity as possible? thank you. this is really all i can do for him.]

By the way… why am i always the last to find out?

My friend. We haven’t talked for a while, but every memory I have with him is filled with laughter, smiles, and good humor.

Receiving this news made me realize how shallow and stupid it was for me to raise money for new bras when the money could be going to a much better place… So, sorry to those of you who sent in money for the bra fund, but all of it will be getting donated to this instead:

I know how it feels to know someone who has cancer. My teacher from my grammer school has cancer, and she had passed away during the last week of school before we graduated. We all were heartbroken. I wish i had a credit card so I can donate, but I don’t have a credit card or money. I hope you and others can coop with what is happening, and pray for his struggle through this.

What you’re doing is very very awesome  I know many people who’ve battled cancer (from my brother’s brain tumor to my grampa’s tongue cancer, and a few others in between) so this definitely means something to me.  I am participating in my local Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, and I’m thinking of trying to do Relay for Life after that.. maybe even getting my whole family involved!  We’ll see how it goes.

I’m so sorry to hear about ur friend, My aunt died a year ago from cancer. Cancer is a true awakening to life. It makes us see how precious life really is. I hope your friend doesn’t lose hope, it’s not the end just a new begining of a journey.

When iwas little i thought i had cancer..because i read the symptoms. and it felt like i had one  of them. but then why would a 14 yr old have cancer? and to this day i dont know. :\… And i would pray for your friend. you’re not the last to know. i can’t believe this – someome as nice, loving, and caring as him should be diagnosed with cancer. i have another friend who is fighting ovarian cancer and i just lost an auntie a couple months back to breast cancer. i really wish there was a cure to cancer. it seems like more and more people are getting cancer.  we just have to keep praying for him and do whatever we can do to help him through this.

i can understand what you are going thru.  my aunt has breast cancer, and i  have to help her raise her baby.  who turned one in january.  i help out as much as possible.  she just recently almost died on us because of chemo.  she lost her beautiful hair and everything.  she got so weak that she couldnt even pick up her own baby.  so i know how distressing it is.

I’m sorry to hear about your friend. My dad had thyroid cancer when I was 13, fortunately it was removed and he has overcome it. Although now he has to take thyroid pills for the rest of his life, it is so much better than cancer. I understand your pain.

I truly believe that within my lifetime, we will see the understanding of genetics, nanotech, and manipulation of the human body on an atomic level to the point that we will be able to truly “beat” cancer. It may take a few decades, but we are so close already- it won’t be long before we can map out exactly what causes it and fix it directly. Right now, medicine is like trying to rebuild a broken river dam by putting stones on rafts or throwing them in the water a mile upstream and hoping maybe they will fall into place and eventually rebuild the dam. Or perhaps using forklifts attachd to poles fifty feet long to roll the stones into place. It’s indirect, it’s bulky, it makes no sense that we can really do much at all- I’m amazed we cure what we do. But the GOOD news is- we’re only inches away from being able to DIRECTLY fix the problem. The equivalent of going in and fiving the dam with robots as exact as our own hands would be or better. Little nano-tech machines that are as small as or SMALLER than the problem areas that can go in and manipulate it.I know this sounds geeky or techy- but I say all this to encourage you. It IS moving forwards. We have what we need to help your friend already, but the final cure is coming down the road. Just keep on keeping on.-Patrick

I hope your friend makes it.  My brother passed away from cancer almost 10 years ago.  There’s nothing worse than seeing someone you love struggle with such an awful disease.  I sincerely hope your friend does not suffer the same fate my brother did back in 97.
