Observing people at work, I recognize three different types of people. People who seem like they’re acting like themselves all the time, people who act fake in front of clients, and then people who just seem genuinely insincere in all of their daily work-related encounters.

What really bothers me is when two equally insincere people start having a “friendly” conversation with each other talking about their “personal” lives. It irritates me to see people who obviously don’t care about what the other person is saying [and probably don’t care about they’re saying, either] talking to each other like they’re buddies.

Give it up. You’re not fooling anyone, even yourself, into thinking that you’re a nice person that actually cares about their coworkers.

On that note, don’t expect me to bend over backwards for you because of your ‘nice guy/girl’ persona, either. I’ve seen your true colors come out whenever you feel as if your profits or image are threatened in the slightest.

Irritating.

I have to admit, if I’m to be categorized, I’d probably go under the category of being a different person around clients. Much of it is because I’d probably scare away our clients if I acted like my normal geeky self.

What type of work persona do you have?

i think I act like myself most of the time, of course occasionally I’ll change into a different person if the situation calls for it. e.g.:super serious boss walks into room. haha

I’m hostile.

Which gets me a lot of reprimands.

Im exactly like you. My mind goes into silent/thinking/cautious mode when in front of clients…

I’m the same at work and at home in terms of cracking jokes, but at work I don’t let anyone slide….

I’m the guy who plays with other people’s urine.

Pretty much myself except to some degree which is moderated by company policy.

I’d like to think I’m honest and simply show whichever facet of myself is best for the situation.  I’m normal, but I’m weird too.  Sometimes a situation calls for something, so I give it the best I can while maintaining my integrity and being able to say, “Yup, that’s me.”

But, like everyone, I tend to slip into “Nice guy” mode from time to time and just listen to someone because they need it or something.

I am mostly myself with clients but obviously you can’t be yourself completely. If I was always the person I was around my clients, I’d be really boring. Until I get to know my clients better, that is. But I don’t like the fake people either, obviously. Posers suck.

i admit that altho im usually easygoing and playful, the moment im given a project, i go into commando mode – my eyes dart from person to person divying up reponsibilities, my voice turns sharp, and i start talking like i expect things to get DONE once i say so (^ ^); my coworkers and bosses have laughed and called it my “commando mode”

I always act like myself. I am the worst faker in the world. So I stop trying to fake and I decided years ago to always tell the truth and be myself. How are you?

Insincere politeness is okay, I think.  As long as it’s more polite than insincere.

I just would not be working very hard if I was too much like myself.

well u can’t be yourself in front of customers…

if i acted like i normally do, in front of a customer, i’d probably use the word ‘fuck’ 20 times, make racist/sexist jokes, n call them retarded for not knowing stuff.

in kinda jest.

but instead, i’m a (fckin’) ray of sunshine.

Well gosh, I work at a higher learning for learning disabled and autistic teens program. That gives me the opportunity to be a shameless clown pretty much ALL DAY!

And I shamelessly clown with all my coworkers too. Not a serious word comes out of my mouth before I tell the people I support that the error message they just saw means there was a catastrophic hardware failure on their computer and they just lost three years worth of work and…

I was just kidding. Your foot hit the surge protector is all.

Just kidding again. Your monitor was turned off.

What was the problem again?

Haha, Hey kids! Wanna cookie? Safety check now… are you safe?

I love my job.
