What if…
All my worldy posessions had to fit in a shopping cart?

What would I have?

The thought crossed my mind as I watched a homeless man push a shopping cart up a hill in downtown LA. I’m from a small town and now I live in Irvine, where the police pick up the homeless and take them to neighboring cities… Needless to say, I’m not used to seeing homeless.

Anyhow, back to the main topic: What would I take with me if everything I owned had to fit in a shopping cart?

I can barely begin to answer… but here are some of the things I would put in:

  • My blanket [it gets cold!]
  • Extra underwear
  • Jackets
  • A pillow [sleeping on the ground is tough]
  • A sharpie [for those signs]
  • Cardboard boxes [for warmth and signs]
  • Any food that I could find

I’ll probably add more to the list as I come up with more things… [I think I still have room haha]

there are too many things we take for granted. iono how they  have all their belongings in one cart but i saw this one homeless guy and he had 2 carts!! hahaha

hey i was looking at your site and saw the ‘lotus tatoo’- i like it a lot! i’ve debating to get a lotus (in that style and like om records logo) or sakura tatoo on my left rotary shoulder arm and probably a lion (i’m a leo) on the my right.

one day in highschool poli sci class the former mayor of irvine came to speak. one of the students ask “mayor, why is there never any homeless shelters in irvine?” the mayor replied by saying “irvine we have a homless shovel system.”
the students were shocked, including me.

i’d say toilet paper (2 ply at least) a camera with lots and lots of film (maybe even digital if i can get some rechargable batteries somehow…) to document my sad life. some notebooks and pens to compliment the pictures. probably a couple of million bucks and baseball bat to hunt small domestic animals if i really start to starve. there’s still room in there somehwere i’m sure…

well, if i were homeless i suppose id also be much poorer than i am now, so probably warm blankets, some extra clothes, a knife (for all occasions), and other bare necessities… if i were rich, a wallet and my cats! everyhting else i can get or live without!

ah i used to work at downtown LA (in the bad parts) and homeless filled the streets.  i suppose it’s scary for ppl unfamiliar with the environment because they do come up to you and ask for charity.  i can’t imagine anyone living that way because you’re basically sleeping on streets that’re filled with urine and feces.  ok not the most lovely image for the next thought:
