Bone Marrow, FTC, and motivation

on Bone Marrow:

So I put myself on this list for bone marrow transplant availibility. They told me that if I’m chosen as a match for someone they’ll put me under anesthetics and jab a needle into my hip and draw just enough to help someone who is dying. GREAT! I figure… what a wonderful way to help someone (while I’m asleep, too!)…

What I didn’t realize was that they would need a sample of my blood. And that I wouldn’t be asleep for that.

Who knew it would be so hard to squeeze 5 half-inch diameter circles of blood onto a piece of paper? Blech!! ^_^ i’m such a wuss — i jsut kept reminding myself it was for a good cause!

FTC was great… I think I re-found my motivation for many things. For the first time in a long time I felt the way I did back in high school about life. =D I think things are going to go up from here.

Blood thing? I already passed out on the marrow/needle thing. Must be a big needle if it needs to penetrate bone :(

You are a brave person.

Kim, I have mad respect for your madpimp self for putting yourself on the bone marrow transplant list. My uncle had non-hodgkins lymphoma and ended up needing a bone marrow transplant. It probably extended his life an additional 6 months before he died last year.

I think it’s so good that you’re doing it. I hope people have talked to you about what’s involved on your end though. You’ll be pretty weak for a little while after giving (at least that’s what I understand).

As much as I’d love to do what you just offered to do, I know I get to queezy even with blood. and i’m a 6’2 and 180 lbs guy. in med school!

Hey Kim, I’m just glad that you’re coming back to your old self. Be happy, babe, you deserve it. And let’s do stuff for Thanksgiving, ‘kay?

Looks like you’re pretty damned brave, Kim, not a wuss. You were afraid and you still went ahead with it. :)

You look kind of glum on your cam… or is that just pensive? Still, it’s your cam and you can do what you want with it. :)

Keep happy, Kim.
