Am I going to hell?

Are you?

What happens after we die? Since childhood I’ve been told that
reincarnation is the answer to the afterlife and that there are several
different levels of reincarnation up until the point of nirvana.
Basically, if you’re a good person, when you’re reincarnated your life
is better and you’re a more enlightened person. If you’re a bad
person you’ll be reincarnated as something worse. Perhaps an
animal or a person who experiences a lot of bad luck. i.e. if you
killed a person in this life, in the next life you might be
reincarnated as a dog whose abusive owner happens to be the soul of the
person you killed previously.

There are so many different stories and hypothesis about what happens after you die…

How come it’s so hard to believe that perhaps, nothing happens at
all? When I look at things objectively, I find it hard to believe
in my mind anything except the fact that we just…stop.

But then… how come it’s so hard for me to believe in my heart that my consciousness simply disappears once I’m dead?

What do you think happens when we die?

i think there’s a strong possibility that there simply is nothing after life.  but man in general can’t cope with this idea and so invented religion, afterlife, god.  Otherwise they would go insane.

i think we cease to exist.
buddhists think about reincarnation; christians think about heaven & hell.  some people think unrested souls stick around as spirits and ghosts.
all of those beliefs = karma.  like you said, if you’re a good person, something good will happen to you.  if you’re bad, something bad will happen to you.  this is all i believe in, and this belief only applies to this lifetime.
i don’t want to take the chance that there won’t be an afterlife and waste the current opportunity.

I believe that, after we die, we end up in whatever believed in that life.  If you believe in the whole reincarnation thing, you’ll be reincarnated into whatever appropriate life you’re supposed to have next.  If you believe in Heaven and Hell, you’ll just go straight to Hell…because no one is ever good enough to get into Heaven…unless you’re Morman.  Of course, that all changed when the Heaven and Hell wars began again.  This time, Kenny ended up going to Heaven because he was destined to wield the Golden PSP, which controlled all of Heaven’s army, and because Japanese people have no souls. X)  So, what happens to all those Atheists?  For them, Death will come along and give them an option of which afterlife they’d prefer.  Would they like to spent the rest of eternity in Hell or go to the Island called Fandango, where all they do there is have fun, drink, have sex, and party all the time.  Yes….I get swayed by things I watched quite easily.

Well, if you figure it out. Be sure to write a dissertation on it and make a million dollars, because this is the most disputed question ever. However, the human person is wholly unique so I would be doing someone a great disservice if i was reincarnated and they got my soul (that is to say that i dont believe in reincarnation). However, the belief does have a terminus, in some Buddhist traditions, that Samsara would end in Nirvana, but where is the love. That is the main question, how could a soul, capable of such heights, be doomed to nonexistence? It doesnt have to, and it won’t. Nice site by the way..

come_what_may said,

October 13, 2005 @ 12:27 pm

Human beings have something that no other creature has, a moral conscience. We have these beliefs, values about good and evil. If I kill your mother, how would you feel, or vice versa? Every man wants happiness and that is found through human relationships and ultimately through God. Think about this, every major religion has essentially the same values and morals. Love. Do not kill. Be good. Do not slander. Help each other. Major religions teach about God, whether you call him Allah, Jesus, God or Buddha (or nirvana). Major religions differ in beliefs, but not in morals. I look at it like this, there is only one God, but many ways to get to know Him.God exists; I’m Catholic. Read up on Thomas Aquinas’ Proofs of God’s Existence sometime. If not faith, maybe those proofs will make you a believer.

xtenstarsonsticksx said,

October 13, 2005 @ 12:58 pm

Maybe it all depends on who you are and what you believe. But we don’t know. I was thinking about it today, because we were studying the black plauge again and how the bird flu would affect the US if it came here. Its so odd. You see your dead loved one lying in a casket and you don’t know what to think. “I hope they’re happy” is one thing, but what if nothing happens after we die?
What if we really are just a permanant unconcious person? Its odd. But I believe in a mixture of Buddhism/Hinduism over Christianity.
I’d have to say, Reincarnation.
I was baptized when I was a baby. So since that day, I have been told that I was a Christian and that God was the right path. But, I wish I wasn’t baptized. Because I was raised to be one way, and I wish I could have had the option when I was older to choose what faith I wanted to be.

scaryuncle said,

October 13, 2005 @ 12:59 pm

Why does it matter? Because if there’s a good and a bad option you want to make sure you make the right choice? Ok, so how do you do that? Morals, ethics, behaviors? I already have those down pat. I’m not going to let some old guy in a robe tell me I should act this way and think that way and do this on such and such a day just because he says he’s pretty sure his God wants me to. I live the way I think I should live, the way that is most conductive to my personal philosophy. The afterlife can sort itself out, it doesn’t need any help from me.

My typical answer is “we go to heaven”.
Reincarnation peaks my interest.  It’s the most thought-provoking outcome.
Logic says, we don’t exist any longer.
My heart says, there has to be more out there than all of this.  A peace that we all will find after the struggles of life.
Guess we’ll know when we die.

jeeves777 said,

October 13, 2005 @ 2:44 pm

Reincarnation makes for a good philosophy. But it just sounds like a reason for grown-ups to be good, just like kids have the Santa Claus story to believe in. Good to believe in, but I dunno… I’m more of an evidence sort of guy.I think people desperately want an afterlife of sorts to reassure themselves that their life has meaning. But the thing is, throw the question of God into the equation, and suddenly, what you believe about this whole thing becomes the most important question you can ever ask. Whether or not we believe in heaven or hell or reincarnation or the Universal Consciousness or God… shapes the way we look at everything. Get the answer wrong, and you could be shooting yourself in the foot for all eternity. But I figure, if there is a God or spiritual force out there, and He’s to have any relevance to our lives, He would have left some instructions or indication of what we’re supposed to do.

Anyone psychically sensitive knows that the dearly departed communicate with us all the time via sending information in dreams, via pictures or words in our thoughts that we kinda think are our own inspiration.

Greetin’s Shi…
The story is told of how many thousand years ago, a Divine Being came down to this newly created earth and formed mankind from the very dust that he daily walks on.  Once the body of the man was completed, this Divine Being breathed into the hollow form the Breath of Life…and thus, mankind was born….they were literally, “living souls.”
So…if this story (which is based on what you read on the first page of the Bible) is true, then God is the Keeper of our Lives, the One who gives it (and the One who is able to take it away again, should He choose to do so).  Thus, if we are to find out what lays beyond the “pale of death”, we need to be getting “in touch” with God Himself.
The Good News is that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to let us know what the Real is all about.  In fact, Jesus Himself claimed that if you want to know what Real Life (Eternal Life, at that) is all about, get to know Him!  (You can check out it out for yourself, if you so desire, in any Bible…just look up John 17:3…and maybe check out John 3:16 while you’re at it…you’ll see what I mean).
In any case…I wish you well on your journey to the Real…that which is Forever.
Peace.

He recalled dying 4 different times and couldn’t even talk about it with me because it was so emotionally scarring to him.
As for me…..I just can’t believe that this is it for any of us, that the energy of my life will cease to exsist because my fleshy body doesn’t. Everything about me is less about my skin and bones than it is in my thoughts, feelings and convictions.

Religion is probably one of the most controversial topics on the planet. There are so many people that would find your ideas of reincarnation ‘sinful’– and that the only way to heaven is believing in Christ’s sacrifice. Personally, I’m tired of all the hypocrisy, all the fighting, I say, wake up each day, try your best to be a good person and treat others well– and there will be something better for all of us in the end.

Wow, those are very in-depth thinking that you summoned… I’m a devoted Buddhist, so my theory is also re-incarnation, but I also taught at a christian school, so I have brief understanding of their beliefs as well.
Both have the same ideology, be good and you will be reward in your afterlife, be a saint/enlightened and you will become angle/buddha.Overall, the ideology has one objective, and that’s to be a good person.
Honestly, there is no gurantee that there’s an afterlife, but if you believen it, it will resurrect. Just live life accordingly and I’m sure your chances of meeting misfortune will be the slightest… So I wish you happiness and success… And just live life one day at a time….

when we die there is only two possible places we can go: heaven or hell. However we are all doomed to go to hell do to our sin nature. Remember Adam and Eve? Well thanks to them all humanity is cursed to go to hell unless they repent and accept Jesus Christ as their saviour. I’m sure you have heard this all before and probably think it is some kind of joke or think it’s pathetic or both. But the truth is the truth whether people want to believe it or not.

Your spirit rebels against this idea because it knows it’s falsity. Your spirit knows this Earth is not our true place, our final place. I firmly believe that there is an afterlife a glorious life in which those who love God shall live with him and those who do not shall be separated from him. This is evidenced by the ressurection of our Lord Jesus, This is the reason the Apostles and early christians were ready and willing to face horrible deaths rather than recant their faith in Christ. Because of this I walk through life confident and sure that whatever may happen God is with me and I am assured a place with him for eternity. This is what separates christians from others of different faiths. Muslims may choose to die fighting for it, Buddhists focus every day of their lives to achieve this, Hinduists watch their actions carefully in order to achieve this: But I have the Blessed Assurance of Christ received through a single prayer to assure myself of a position in the Afterlife. Do you have this Blessed Assurance?

It’s kinda scary to me that so many people said their answer so confidently. What terrifies me even more is the fact that people said it as if it were the simplist answer in the world. Death is beyond us. You can believe in something, but we’ll never know for certain. We can’t. Hypnotism brings up emotions and ideas that we’ve previously had and gives them form. Human emotions and thoughts and even memories are tainted through psychological means. When I think about how thoughts and emotions are simply an effect from chemicals in the brain, it kind of scares me too. Like there may be nothing outside of this flesh and bone that resides in some spiritual realm. It’s a question that everyone has an answer for, but in the end, we have no way of proving said answers.*shrugs*

ETERNITY HAS TWO CHOICES. HEAVEN OR HELL. YOU DECIDE WHERE U WANT TO GO. Repent for your sins, go on the path of rightousness,
Love the the lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.
Mark 12:30
Through Christ’s death we have life. We don’t have to suffer the fiery pits of Hades for eternity. We don’t have to be tortured for eternity. Jesus gave us our life,  he died for us so we can go to Heaven. All our unrightousness is covered by the blood of Jesus. We are sanctified by his love.

Christianity says that if  you have been saved, then you will spend eternity in Heaven.  It also says that if you haven’t been saved, then you will burn forever in a fire that can’t be quenched.  For any who have heard the word of God and refused to acknowledge it they are not saved but lost.  It is not a choice that God makes to condemn us, but a choice of our own free will that we make to not accept the word that condemns us.

Your consciousness doesn’t just ‘disappear,’ you meet up with Jesus. When you die, you go to heaven or hell, and as to the 12th comment which says “If you believe in Heaven and Hell, you’ll just go straight to Hell…because no one is ever good enough to get into Heaven…” It’s true. No one is good enough to go to heaven, which is why Jesus died for us. He paid for our sins through His blood. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son, and whoever beleives in Him will have everlasting life.”

WOW!  I didn’t count those who believed in heaven/hell, reincarnation, or nothingness.  Of course if we did count them, we would not get a true cross section because maybe the ones that believe in reincarnation are the type people that are willing to comment, or the same might be said for the heaven/hell people.  All I can tell you from my own experience that prayers, honest, sincere, gut prayers have been answered for me, more often positively rather than negatively.  I am judging this from prayers in which I had absolutely no control of the outcome (Such as yes or no for my 5 day old infant with yellow jaundice)  There are those out there that do not believe in any sort of medication or blood transfusion.  I dunno, I do believe in God and I think he gave us a brain and we ought to use it.  As far as heaven, hell, reincarnation, nothingness, I don’t know and have stopped worrying about it.  God is the conductor of my “train” and He will decide my destination.  I really don’t have any control over it.  I agree with those that say most all religions are based on doing good. I believe “a rose by any other name would smell as sweet”  Call Him Buddah, call Him God, call Him Jehova, call Him Lord, but most importantly call Him Bossman.  Even in the Bible, God is referred to by over 100 different names, yet the Bible itself says it is one God.    And that is all I have to say about that :?) ~ Mom

If you believe that Jesus is the son of God and he dies on the cross for your sins and you have asked Jesus to be a part of your life and keep you on the path of rightiousness. You will go to Heaven. Heaven is a divine place. Imagine everything you’ve everwanted to be in the same place. Imagine coming face to face with Jesus. The person who saved you. And you will never have to leave. Remember John 3:16. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son and whosoever believith in his shall not perrish but have EVERLASTING life.

The fact is that there is a heaven and a hell.  This whole world is nothing but good verses evil.  The bible says that every knee will bow and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  You may not believe it here on earth buy one day when you stand before God almighty you will believe then and it will be too late.  The bible says whosoever call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  You need to realize that you are a sinner and that Jesus died on the cross for your sin…you can’t enter heaven by any good works…only through His shed blood…the greatest sacrifice…Jesus Christ.  Call upon His name…ask Him into your heart and stop worrying about where you will spend enternity and know for change that because you accepted Him into your hear your sealed unto the day of redemption!  If I am wrong I have nothing to lose…if you are wrong you have an eternity of life in hell.  I don’t want to take my chance and I love my friends and family too much to not tell them.  Ask Him into your heart today and receive the peace and fill the void you have in your life.

When you die you obviously have some afterlife because that is just something logical. Because it is apparent we all have spirits as humans for the way we act and what we choose to do.
Well, it all comes down to a good and evil. Heaven or Hell. Not based on things you have done but what decision you have made.
Did you believe in God?
If not you have chosen Satan. For there is no in between.
So many scientist believe that there is some higher power because there is no way this intricate design was created by chance and large explosion.
Have you not noticed that about everything ultimately came down to a good and evil?

Howdy, Jesus loves you. He died for you. He is offering you eternal life, but He can not force you to accept it. He did not create us as blindly obedient robots who must do everything he asks. We have the freedom to choose to accept His gift of eternal life or choose to spend eternity in hell. Doing nothing, sitting on the fence, “choosing not to choose” will also result in a trip to hell, forever. Not fair? Wrong, it’s what we deserve. Fact is; we are sinners, we don’t deserve the salvation that Jesus wants to give us. (Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God) Because of this fact, none of us are capable of getting to heaven on our own. Doesn’t matter if you do good deeds, never lie, and are a really nice person. THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN IS THROUGH JESUS. You can even believe in God and that won’t get you to heaven, even demons acknowledge and believe that God is real (James 2:19). How do you accept this gift from Jesus? John 3:16-18 states very clearly what we must do to accept this gift of salvation. “16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son”This means we must each come to God the same way: (1) as a sinner who recognizes his sinfulness, (2) realizes no human works can result in salvation, and (3) relies totally on Christ alone by faith alone for our salvation. If you would like to receive and trust Christ as your personal Savior, you may want to express your faith in Christ by a simple prayer acknowledging your sinfulness, accepting His forgiveness and putting your faith in Christ for your salvation. Here’s an example prayer to help you out…* “Dear God, I know I am a sinner and that my sins separate me from You. Jesus, I know that your death on the cross paid the penalty for my sins. I know that you arose from the dead and that you are God. You are the only way to have salvation. Please forgive me of my sins. Come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Thank you, God for saving me.”If you are already a Christian, consider spreading the good news of Christ via blogs, do it yourself, or cut and paste this blog entry into a new, random blog every day. It’s not spamming, it’s EVANJABLOGGING! Christ commissioned us to spread the good news (Matthew 28:16-20), get busy. Got questions?

If  you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and was raised again on the 3rd day, and youu have admitted you are a sinner and have accepted Christ into your heart, then you will spend eternity with Him in heaven, if not, u go to hell. But something that u may not realize, is that accepting Christ doesn’t only mean ur going to heaven, it also means that you’ll REALLY be living. without Christ you have no purpose, He is the one who guides you, He completes you. Without Him, you’re basically wandering through life in the dark. You must come into the light.

We exist eternally either in death or life or you could use the term Hell and Heaven

YOYOY008 said,

October 15, 2005 @ 5:49 pm

Reincarnation doesn’t make any sense. Who controls the process. What god is out there to facilitate the whole thing?
And if there is a god, who has set aside realms for us to go to when we pass into death, why would he care about the shallow, physical motions we partake during life?
For example, Muslims (I believe, correct me if I’m wrong) are required to *do* things like pray a certain number of times a day, even facing a certain direction!
If I’m an almight being, why would I care what physical direction your carnal body is ‘facing’ when you communicate with me?!?
See, ‘religion’ is about people making an effort to reach an almighty god. Doesn’t make any sense to me.
That’s why I’m a Christian, which isn’t religion – Traditions, prayers, etc., don’t matter.
Rather than us reaching god, it’s instead about God reaching us – In the persona of Jesus Christ.
You want the whole story behind it, and God’s plan, go ahead and ask me.
I know it still sounds crazy, but I went through a similar period of time, where I questioned every belief I heard and had to find my own answer, and, to be brutally honest, Christianity is the only thing that makes sense to me.
I refuse to believe that this universe came into existence randomly. I believe it requires more faith to believe that than to believe in a god…
And I refuse to believe an ALMIGHTY GOD would give a crap what little physical motions you do.
Thus… only leaving Christianity.
Long story short – God’s perfect, creates angels without free will. They’re cül, but don’t *truly* love God. But God thinks that’d be great, if beings loved Him truly.
So he creates human beings, but with a catch – He gives them a free will, to choose what they want, even against Him.
As a result they sin, and are now rendered imperfect – Thus incapable of existing alongside God in a true perfect relationship.
But God provides Jesus Christ as a forgiveness for those sins.
Now all that’s left is, indeed, that free will choice – Either accept Christ’s forgiveness, make that free will choice, and end up loving God… or refuse God’s perfectly free offer and never exist alongside Him.
… *shrug*

Our existence is based on the basic principle of purpose. Without purpose what do we really have, the mere day to day routine that will engulf us until our death? Purpose will generate passion and with which we can bring out our greatest achievements.

How about the one thing has been proven to be around for over 1500 years… ?  Everything changes through time.. but this one thing remains the same… What if what really happens to us.. is something we dont like… so we ignore it like it really isnt going to happen… but it is what is going to happen… isn’t that… crazy? lol…
One man split time in two… changed the world forever.. sure we’ve messed up His chruch and His teachings alot… used it for our own gain… but… Somewhere in there is the truth…
Seems like it would be kinna important…

I know I am going to be in heaven when I die. Its not because of the good or bad things I have done (thankfully!) its because I have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I kinda felt the same way you did once. Deep down inside I realized there was a heaven and hell, for a while I chose to believe if I did the right things, then I could get to heaven. To make a long story short, I began to accept that there was a place called hell and I was going there if I did not trust in Christ to save me. This truth became so strong that one night I called out to Jesus and asked Him to forgive me for my sins (because He was crucified to death on a cross to save those from their sins and ultimatley hell for those who ask Him too.) and to ask Him to save me. Something great happened that night and He has totally changed me! If you want to more about this, you are more than welcome to post on my xanga site.

where you go depends completely on where you put your trust. if you put your trust in “good” things that you do, or if you put it in some kind of ritual, maybe your trust is in yourself. if your trust is in any of these things, then youre going to Hell. as a matter of fact if your trust is in anything besides Jesus Christ, the Son of God, then your final destination is the lake of fire. but if you believe that Jesus died for your sins, rose again and is stil living, if you trust Him as your Lord and only Savior then you will be in Heaven. “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead you will be saved” Romans 10:9

Not to sound callus, but what difference does it make. You can go you’re whole life believing one thing and people will ostracize you for it, tell you that you are wrong. I say just live you life the way you see fit, make the best of what comes at you. If you believe in “God” great if you don’t oh well, you can go you whole life worrying about it or you can just be you. You can change certain aspects of yourself but I don’t think that it’s all that easy to change you moral fiber. And if “God” does exist I hope that he judges us not by whether or not we believed in him but how well we held up to what we did believe in.
